Chapter Five: Trouble in Paradise

After being reunited, the children started down a small road that led them to a village. The day was warm, and the soft breeze was welcoming to them after a long and hard day. The winding streets gently sloped and opened up to a pretty village sitting aside the sweeping, gentle peaks and a vast blue lake. The stone cottages were low-slung with lovely colors that were iridescent in the sunlight. There were shops, galleries, and eateries mixed in with rows of cottages. Each building tried to outshine the others with bright and cheerful paints on the walls, doors and windows. The balconies were adorned with baskets or planters of radiant flowers that created a riot of colors reminding Brian of his magical encounter with the bed on the cloud. His mind was filled with flowers, the magical sword, and other fantastic things he saw the first day he woke up from his sleep. Many of them also displayed decorative flags or banners. There were gardens, colorful butterflies, and birds almost everywhere they looked. The aroma of freshly baked cakes, coffee, and the flowers greeted the team. There gently winding streets had no cars. There were some folks dressed up in colorful costumes and speaking in a language unfamiliar to the children. They smiled and some waved to the children as if they had been expecting them for some time. The birds were noisy but not annoyingly troublesome on the tree and roof tops. Lucas pointed to a sign advertising in English of a nearby hostel on a street labeled “Z”.

When they arrived at the pleasant and quiet hostel, they saw a posted letter on the door. "Come in and enjoy your stay." The large reception room opened up to several hallways with signs in both English, and another language unknown to them, The sign and the verification hologram displaying Brian's favorite set of toy soldiers appeared. It was long enough for him to know and convinced his friends that it was safe to go in. Brian led the group down the hallway with a sign welcoming "Brian and friends". They were surprised that each of the five room doors was unlocked and individually labelled with their names on each. Brian went into his, The room was bright and had the appearance of being freshly painted in a pleasant light blue color. Inside there was a small desk, a single bed and bathroom. The windows opened out into the valley and a large lake beyond. Brian left his sword on the desk and laid down on the soft bed. He immediately fell fast asleep as were his exhausted friends in their rooms.
