Chapter Three: The Dragon

“Listen! I think I hear the voices of the bees. At first they were just tiny buzzing sounds, but now they seem to be saying something I can understand,” Liam said. Everyone was quiet as he cupped his hands over his ears and concentrated to hear. Within minutes Liam said “The bees are whispering to me to walk the bridle path following the stream to where we need to be. I know this sounds crazy, but I think they’re saying it will be magical with lots of fun, good, and adventurous things.” He added, “I hear the same from the song birds on the tree top now…”

“What do you think, guys?” Aiden asked.

Lucas was quiet for some time, but now spoke. “I somehow was able to see a vision, an image; it’s hard to explain how I saw this. But I think that following the bridle path away from the Sun, along the stream and beyond the trees, after several rocky hills and the meadow there is a large lake with a small boat. That is where we need to go.” He added, “I see a castle... An almost medieval castle, like something from ‘Dungeons and Dragons’ with a drawbridge. Something is waiting for us there.”

After a short discussion, everyone agreed with Liam and Lucas to start their journey to the place unknown to Brian and Aiden but quite a bit more assured by Liam and Lucas.

They walked for some time. At first, everyone was cheerful and talkative. "It seems that the other direction just leads to nowhere," Lucas mentioned as they walked, to no one in particular. He was a mature boy for his age. He reasoned that the direction they took led to a more featured landscape. It seemed less hot, and led to the village where they had been directed. "Guys. Let’s go towards the boulders and the trees", Lucas continued, "we may be able to locate the way out of this place and to the place I think we somehow need to be. The other way seems to go to some sort of weird desert."

They agreed to walk for a while following the direction recommended by Lucas and Liam. They still were amazed and talked again about how they all got to this strange, weird, and fantastic place that allowed superhuman senses and Brian’s magical sword. They did not know where they were, but somehow that did not bother them. They agreed that they all seemed fine. They could enjoy the journey and know that everything would turn out to be okay.

Lucas wasn’t sure whether it was an uncanny sensation of déjà vu or a dream-like vision in him which told him he had spent some time at this village before. However, he was almost sure that the voices of the bees and the songbirds that Liam heard and his own inner voice were telling the truth. The last thing he remembered before winding up in this place was that his father had said something about a new adventure in the ‘Dungeons and Dragons’ electronic game he'd bought for him to bring to Brian’s birthday the next day. It seemed like he had been away for much longer than two days. "And when I woke up", Liam finished explaining, "I found myself here behind that large rock with you guys."
